Intro:
Hi every one, while I was thinking about restaurants, the name came to mind for its authenticity and great taste is “The Coastal Macha” in Kolkata. Chef Piyush Menon has opened this restaurant roughly three years ago and within this short time, it has touched the peak of popularity. As the name suggests this one is famous for widespread of coastal and seafood dishes based on Goan, Keralian and other south Indian states’ cuisines, though it also serves a few Bengali delicacies.
We have visited this awesome restaurant last October during Durga Puja and fell in love with this one at the very first visit. I am going to share our experience here, so stay tuned to the end for the detailed review:
We were hopping puja pandals, suddenly our stomach announced a strike against our exploration and made us navigate google for a hyped restaurant as Puja time is all about enjoyment!! After searching for a few minutes and a never-ending discussion, we decided to take a chance on this joint.
Location :
The Google address of this restaurant is: p411, 23b, Golpark, industan Park, Gariahat, Kolkata, West Bengal 700029.
If you start walking from Gariahat crossing towards Golpark, it will be on the right side just after KFC, Padmaparer Rannaghar & The Raymond Shop, situated in the parallel lane of Muralidhar Girls’ College( The coastal macha comes first if you are coming from Gariahat).

Ambience :
The first impression after entering here will be the vibrant sea blue colour of the walls and beautiful little details as colourful little boats and coconut trees on it. They gave us a table in the inner room and boom! We were awestruck by the decoration of that room.
It is a medium joint but so soothing that you won’t get always. The table has a glass top and under the glass, there was sand, stone and seashells. It’s like you are having your dinner on the sea beach!! The ceiling has light shades made from bamboo baskets!
Service & staff behaviour:
Courtesy is a mandatory quality here. Even in that rush hour of puja, everyone was so helpful from the time of welcoming to help with the menu, no one is complaining.
Food :
Now we have reached the most important part of this blog. A restaurant is majorly judged by its food quality and then quantity. Detailed food review is necessary.
Quality:
As I have earlier mentioned Coastal Macha has a widespread menu but we had ordered some recommended ones.
Kasundi crab smoked in chili cream:
It was more than delicious. The whole crab was smoked with Kasundi flavour! Awesome!
This unique Karelian combination will surely blow your mind, however, if you don’t want much oil avoid this.
Ghee roast mutton & malavar paratha:
It was not exceptional like the previous two but good with that mutton.
Peas Pulao:
Quantity:
Every dishes in Coastal Macha easily satisfies two people. In the crab dish, you will get two crabs.
Wallet Damage:
Coastal Macha was neither very expensive nor very cheap for us.
Hygiene:
We had no issue. Not everyone cares but I found the washroom was also exceptionally clean.
