Preface

I visited this place while I was in Kakinada. Kakinada is a small town on the seaside, as is Coringa Sanctuary Park. Basically, Coringa is an estuary, as there is a long backwater canal flowing through the sanctuary.

Location of Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary:

It will take three and a half hours to reach Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary from Visakhapatnam and only 20 km away from the town of Kakinada. Rajahmundry is the nearest rail station, 70 Km away.

Wandering through Coringa Wild Life Sanctuary:

Coringa is a part of Krishna -Godavari delta which is the third largest mangrove forest in India. Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary is indeed full of flora and fauna species, especially it is the habitat of the white-backed vulture, the long-billed vulture, and the Golden Jackal. But I went on an April afternoon, it was too hot for wildlife, hence I missed them…

That doesn’t mean, my journey was a non success. What I enjoyed here was, the boat ride across the backwater canal to the estuary where the canal meets the Bay of Bengal. Though the experience can only be understood by participation, I would like to describe it in a few words.

Boat ride at Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary:

If you want to do the boat ride, you have to book separately for this. The ticket counter is adjacent to the jetty. Each boat has near about  20 seats, may have to wait for the next boat if there is a long queue. As I have told you earlier, this was a summer afternoon, we reached there just before the last boat ride. But this turned out to be a boon as I got a scope to see the setting of the Sun on the sides of the estuary. The boat ride is around 30 minutes. It will take you to the opening of the sea at a medium pace and return. The journey is a bit similar and a smaller version of the trip to Paradise Beach from Puducherry. However, there are differences between these two journies. The boat ride at Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary is on a comparatively narrow canal surrounded by dense mangrove forests on both sides. The sound of the mechanized boats was surprisingly low, which helped to feel the calmness of the forest. The setting sun was providing the calm vibe of a birdie returning to its nest.

As the boat was progressing towards the bay, the estuary becoming more and more wide.  The twilight light was blending effortlessly into the sea seawater. After staying for a while at the bay-canal connector, the boat turned its direction. I was returning. Returning with an experience, an experience that was not made by a handful of memories but enriched with an emotion assuring me still today,

“Let go, give in now

Breath in, you can be without

Feel the warmth that you’re made of

Don’t worry, just give love”
